BC link.

The Dynamite Entertainment presentation at the Diamond comic book retailer summit taking place in Chicago tonight had plenty to show off regarding the many comic books they publish, from Betty Page to Mighty Mouse to the Sovereigns.

But the big news was their new James Bond comic book project, Origin.

This will be the 100% origin story of the secret agent James Bond, officially approved by the Ian Fleming estate and the Broccoli family.

The creative team have not yet been announced, but Bleeding Cool understands that it is intended to be set in the original James Bond timeline, with his adventures in World War II.

Dynamite has been publishing a number of James Bond-related comic books in the last few years, in a deal orchestrated by Forbidden Planet co-founder Mike Lake, and have had some top name creative talent, including Warren Ellis, Kieron Gillen and Andy Diggle. But this may be in an entirely different league, and is likely to bring a lot of attention to it.

Terminate me if old.

That's awesome! I've been reading Hammerhead and whatever the other run is called and they've both been fun but this would be huge.

Barf. I do not want a Bond origin. Bond Rising, Bond Origins, whatever.

James Bond is an orphan from a well-off British family who wasn't an interesting person until he had a license to kill.

I just saved these guys a lot of work.

Bond comics have recently been surprisingly good, probably because they hire top talent for them.

What about Charlie Higson's Young Bond series? Is that canonical?

I swear this has been officially done before.

I'm pretty sure there some licensed Young Bond books a few years back.

If Ian Fleming isn't writing this comic book, it's not official, in my eyes.

First we get the origin story (the story of that thing you like before it was interesting!), then in a few years we'll get a TV show about the Bond universe, but before Bond (the story of that thing you like without that thing you like!).

There is a novel " James Bond: The Authorized Biography of 007" by John Pearson that covers his origin. But its up for debate whether it is cannon. I guess not anymore.

Glad someone brought this up. Silverfin was clearly aimed at teens but it's a very good origin story, imo (with a little suspension of disbelief).

Even better. It's Warren Ellis.

Eh, I love the idea of a Bond comic but I don't think people want to know about the character's past.
