The stories are easy to follow. Doesn't mean they lack depth or enough material for endless discussion. I mean the discussion has only been going on for 40 years. That's the brilliant thing about it, the basic story is typical good vs. evil, but the mysticism, spirituality, and inspiration has always been a point of deeper thought. I mean it's why people can sit around for eight+ hour stretches talking about religion. But like religion, whether it is or isn't fucking nothing, we do what we want with it.

It's funny, we still talk about the Force like we still don't understand it-- even though the Midichlorians supposedly explained and ruined the Force and our childhoods.

Which is why "these movies are shallow kids films" holds no water. The depth is there, if you want it

And in all fairness, midis are effectively retconned from the main films, moving forward. I'd be shocked if they were ever mentioned again

Sadly had to miss SW Celebration even though I live in Orlando, but I still had a coworker get me this for my daughter:

Needless to say, she was happy when I surprised her with it. And it's a soft ass shirt.

The basic story won't ever really have anything that requires any mind-bending to understand. Star Wars isn't Christopher Nolan being a psychological whack (or trying to be). It's for all ages so kids need to be able to follow that shit. The big answers behind the mysteries laid out in VII likely won't be some convoluted or long-winded bullshit, but there's always going to be a lot of details surrounding certain things that said kids will start to ponder and think about as they grow up. It's what gives the series its longevity, even if you love them at a younger age there's material to appreciate once you're old enough to get it.

Looking at the shirt and seeing her hair down again, I'm convinced that every scene in the teaser with Rey was in the first half of the film. I guarantee she lets that shit down after a point in her training

They'll do this thing where Luke will tell her if she can fling the saber around without cutting some of her hair, that she is truly a Jedi. She'll let it down, go to town.

If you act obviously sexist & racist, that's probably gonna get you called out for being sexist and racist, though.

I mean, that's not a Star Wars thing.

Dunno why you're so eager to have this happen to you/around you/in front of you.

Lost Stars is coming today, and I finished Rebels season one yesterday afternoon. I had a hard time sticking with it, but it did get better as it went. Still dislike Ezra, it's like watching a Jonas brother becoming a Jedi.

Think I'll hit up Bloodline after, as it apparently goes into politics a lot and explains more of the state of things politically between VI and VII.

I just noticed that when Luke says "it's time for the Jedi... to end" you can actually see him saying it in the last shot of the teaser. Before I thought it was a voice over or maybe just one of those lines used in a trailer to summarize a major plot point.

Yup, still think it's somewhat of a red herring though. The initial takeaway was that the Jedi name won't be used, moving forward; which I don't think will the the case. There will be another evolution or even a revolutionary take on what it means to be a Jedi.

Clearly Han is the only catholic guy in that universe, since he is (as far as I remember) the only one who believes in hell.

Or maybe the guy he shouted it at is the only catholic guy there and Han just used his religion against him. Han could be a bit of a dick at times.

Funny enough he actually shouts it back in ANH. Specifically at Leia, when she shoots the grate.

To be fair that is not canon. Only the most recent editions of the films are considered canon per the Lucasfilm Story Group.

So this is how it "actually" appeared, in universe:

Yeah, in reality it's just a basic bit of stock phrasing that ends up somewhat divorced when you stop and think on it. Actually reminds me of a point raised on twitter on how the line 'Looks like meat's back on the menu boys!' in LOTR is weird when you realise how recent the term menu actually is.

I always just interpreted that as "I'll see you in whatever we consider a bad place to be after you die", not to be taken literally as the biblical definition of "hell". That phrase just resonates better with the audience

Don't really know what to expect. I did not like FA but i liked Rogue one. While the two can't really be compared outside of being in the same universe, Rogue One is more grounded and did not have some retconned version of starkiller base or a protag that can do everything without any context.

It's sad that those same tired talking points keep getting used and probably will indefinitely. I really do hope that Johnson really fleshes Rey out, though. As overblown as the Mary Sue garbage is, I think TLJ is a great opportunity for Johnson to define who this young woman is and could become, and I'm super pumped for it.

Kathleen Kennedy praised the shit out of him at celebration for his ability to write strong women characters. Rey is gunna be put through a pretty rigorous test and it's gunna be pretty damn rewarding to watch, I think.

The worst thing about the Mary Sue junk is that the provocateurs of the subject seem wholly uninterested in getting the bigger picture before the proclamation, which has completely shit up a lot of otherwise healthy debate.

I wonder what role Maz Kanata is playing in this movie? If Rey is with Luke learning Force stuff, what role does Maz play at the Resistance base? I wonder if she becomes some sort of advisor or leader, or if she's just the one who points Finn in the direction he needs to go to find Rey.

IIRC Rian actually shared a BTS photo of her. Or it may have just been an image of Maz. Either way I'm sure she is.

Hmm, we never see her with the Resistance in TFA so she could really be anywhere. Maybe she's on that casino planet? Lost her bar after all she probably took the insurance money and is spending it on the slot machines

Careful! It's not a huge deal to me, but you know how finicky people are.

I mean, it's something we'll probably see in trailers/spots/general marketing before the film releases, but just a word of caution.

I thought in the original TFA draft she followed them to the Resistance base? I just assumed she'd end up there because of that, but I guess technically she could be anywhere.
