Godzilla 2014. Marketed as the next serious Godzilla movie that would actually have a theme for once, ended up being boring schlock just like the second half of the franchise.

Can't disagree with Godzilla, that was a completely different movie than the one they showed. I liked it, but it's not what I went to see

Prometheus and Godzilla 2014 are some good examples.

Aside from those two, can't think of anything else right now.

How does a remake of Episode 4, retroactively destroy the fun you had watching the original when you were young?

I remember being really disappointed with True Grit. Not that it's a bad movie per se, but the tone of the trailer I saw was completely different from the movie's. The trailer had mostly stylish shots and moody music. I thought the movie was going to be a slow burner, especially after No country for old men and Jesse James (Roger Deakins). I'll have to rewatch that movie and give it a second chance :)

That Interstellar teaser was so inspiring. The end result just doesn't measure up. I would even call it deceiving.

Man of Steel's trailers were also misleading as fuck in terms of the movie's tone.

Then there's Prometheus. But those trailers weren't as misleading at least. The execution just ended up being shit.

Well, that's a you problem.

I loved (and still love) the OT. A movie releasing in 2015 doesn't suddenly white that out of existence.

C'mon bruh...I understand saying that TFA didn't do it for you (I thought it was just ok while being incredibly derivative) but to say it pulled a Marty McFly vanishing photo on your childhood?

I can't...

Maybe they don't like how the trailers completely hid the fact that it retread so much of the OT? They never really showed what the movie was about either. Just a seemingly random selection of scenes that said Star Wars. I wasn't particularly letdown by its trailers myself because I was never particularly hyped for it either.

The let down from Phantom Menace was epic, but it was more about the whole revival of Star Wars, not the trailer per se. The trailer itself is ass, but people overlooked that out of excitement.

For trailer hype, Man of Steel is still be biggest let down for me.

Sure the designs seemed to suck but we were going to get transforming robots by a guy who likes to explode stuff on screen, who the fuck cares!? And then the humans and Michael Bay script shenanigans came a long.

Some of the films being listed were disappointing but still decent to good.

Suicide Squad looked liked it was going to be a lot of fun right until some of the clips that surfaced the week before release.

Probably Age of Ultron, but Suicide Squad had a significantly bigger disparity between trailer quality and movie quality, I just knew SS had a decently high chance of sucking anyways.

Yep. I remember Suicide Squad looking great and then they released that clip of Joker and Harley in the car while Batman chased them and it was just red flag after red flag. The dialogue was bad, the editing was off, the acting seemed spotty.

Made me wonder if the whole movie would have those problems, and if not, why release that clip to market the movie? And then the reviews started coming in...

Squad could be an interesting study case.

It had trailers that were so well cut and so succesful and yet so misleading and tonally different from the actual movie that WB had to hire the very same trailer house to re-edit the movie according to their stylings, lol.

Terrific trailers - some of best cut together ever.

Strong cast.

New Star Wars film.

Darth Maul.

Pity it was a mess. An ambitious and interesting mess but a mess.
