That's off, more of an extreme scenario than anything.

Though if I do remember correctly, the Imperium sacrifices thousands of those with psychic powers each day so that the Emperor can live on.

Nukes? Sure thing. But then the Imperium can go one better, and really turn things up to 11:

You probably might want to read up on Krieg. During the crusades chem, bio and nuclear weapons were used also.

But typically there are better alternatives.

Confession : I bought ultramarines and played around 5-10 hours just to look at the locales in 3d because i had spent a good amount of time sifting through the lexicanum awhile back. I kept playing even though i really wasn't enjoying the game. I saw parts of a titan in 3d! worth! The awesomeness of 40K transcends critical thinking.

Doesn't seem like an in-depth piece of material for that fight is going to be around any time soon.

However, the whole build up of The Horus Heresy is still very enjoyable!

They are part of the Inquisition but aren't lackies to an Inquisitor.

I refuse to believe a Grey Knight goes about doing his thing under the leadership of an Inquisitor. The Deathwatch are just temps who are there to help out Inquisitors because they aren't tough enough to hack it themselves.

Whereas the SoB are beholden to the Ecclesiarchy, which means their basically used by Inquisitors whenever one feels like it.

As long as it's got a valid ebook file type it should be able to read it.

Also great tag, BG2 is the greatest rpg of all time.

Thank you, that was it. Jeez, that's very meta of them. Like the art of getting their ebooks to go straight to iBooks or the Kindle app was lost on a feral world sometime during the age of strife.

But why do the artwork sometimes show a hundred thousand units engaged in ground battle? Do they have some technology that renders weapons of mass destruction useless and the only way to do battle is on the ground or something?

Entire worlds are devoted to certain things like Agriculture, Industry, etc.

You can't just nuke the fuck out of all of them. You have to try and gain back these worlds to fuel your Empire. In a universe where everyone is short on space really, you kind of want to hold on to what you have.

Do the enemies of the imperium reason like this as well? I could probably see some worlds holding value to all involved but there must have been a couple of cases where a big battle ended with a nuke going of from the losing side as there clearly isn't any rules of war in this world.

The Imperium only tends to go nuclear or worse when things are really going down shit creek without a paddle. Generally with them, it's cheaper to throw millions of Imperial Guardsmen at the problem (clad in tshirts and armed with torches) than use expensive and possibly rare tech that could destroy the planet and render it partly or fully useless.

'Nids want to gobble up all bio-matter on a planet once they've cleared out any resistance.
The Tau want to colonise anything they can.
Orks just want to....be Orks.
Necrons want tomb worlds IIRC.
The Chaos gods want victims or troops to use to their own ends
Eldar want to survive and cling on I guess? Not to sure on their aims or objectives.

So generally the factions have little use in blowing up worlds for shits and giggles, only when necessity dictates it.

The Imperium is considerably more unreasonable than any of the other races. They are stubborn as fuck, and sometimes instead of saving millions of lives by nuking the fuck out the enemy, they will commit to it because there are so many humans, they don't give a fuck.

You'll be surprised how many worlds are considered "worth it" by several races due to a variety of reasons. However, sometimes some insane shit goes down. If the Imperium considers a world too far under Chaos influence they don't just nuke the enemy; the obliterate the entire planet in an act called Exterminatus.

The key thing to take away from all of this is that the Humans are extremely stubborn and don't do shit in a rational manner. The Eldar are up there too with their holier-than-thou shit.

I don't see what you are saying.

They did some stuff under the decree of the Inquisition. They don't follow individual Inquisitor's around as though they were a guard dog. The SoB though are specifically there for the whims of Inquisitors.

It's quite well known that Space Marines like to be beholden to their own, and do not get along well with Inquisitor's. They merely tolerate them. However following the the decision of the Inquisition as an organisation is a different thing.

That being said, I remember the GK's first came out and I read about them. I really dislike them, they were just too "amazing" and "powerful" for me. Oh look at me, not even a normal Space Marine can compete, pfft. So I wouldn't be surprised if they asked how how high if an Inquisitor asked them to jump.

I'm open to conceding the point that GK's could be just as under thumb as the SoB, but in my mind currently there's a very different level of standing between a Grey Knight and a Sister of Battle.
